Whilst the 1980s and 1990s were critical in shaping and directing the course of evolving arts-related research, the period stretching into this last decade is arguably one in which researchers have experimented and taken greater risks with the creative process, along with personal and disciplinary perspectives, letting research and creativity unfold.
This ability of the researcher’s own interconnectedness with the subject matter; the idea of ‘bricolage,’ (Savin-Baden and Major, 2013) provides an important means for the arts-related researcher to highlight relationships which become apparent through knowledge of material processes, art discourse and creative praxis.
